Slenderman by JonaGold2000 Slenderman by JonaGold2000
A couple of weeks ago I went to the ISFCAL (International Sanctuary For Cryptids and Legends, location: secret) and made this sketch of the creature commonly called the Slenderman. The Slenderman is a type of Seriema, they are thought to have seperated from seriemas about 20 million years ago. Like their cousins, terror birds, they went for larger prey. But in this instance the birds kicked and used their club-like wings for killing prey. Tracked it down using smell. Their beaks (often confused for faceless heads) have evolved a highly specialized bills shape.

The bird has special tail feathers, often confused for tentacles, that are used in mating dances. The birds extend their necks and wiggle their tails making making the feathers shake in the wind. The red stripe on their chests and necks also is a big part of this dance. Different individuals have different lengths and compostions of these feathers, giving them the additional use of identifying individuals.

This bizarre lineage of birds barely made it through the End-Pleistocene extinction. But they adapted a strategy for survival, they avoid humans at all costs, this is the reason they are so rarely seen. They will only engage with humans when extremely hunger or when no other mode of escape if possible. However the 4 individuals at the ISFCAL have become comfortable around a very small select group of keepers. Anyone passing by the enclose is told to not look at the birds for too long, keep moving forward and remain calm, otherwise the birds might panic.

In the wild Slendermen prey on deer, boars, and larger birds and reptiles. The larger prey is clubbed to death with their wings while the small ones are usually kicked. They live in the more remote forests of North America, where human encounters are minimal.

This sketch features the largest 2 slenderman at the ISFCAL, Bill(left) and Conner(right) standing next to a zookeeper. Also added made a quick sketch of a Slenderman skeleton.

This was the first of the three winners for the 100 watcher poll. Suggested by :iconthedubstepaddict:

It's a thing I did for my 100 watchers, a ''realistic'' version of a fictional character and Slenderman won.

Epic concept! Imagine if its screech could have some sort of unusual effect on those who hear it, you know, cause in a lot of stories Slendy always seems to be able to mind-control his victims to turn them into proxies or just induce paranoia into those who see him...

Not really I'm afraid. Maybe the noise when approaching is a screech though.

The crizzle screen could be venom spit in the eyes or his body feathers have a white underside and he shakes his body like crazy when he sees humans.
